Didn't I say I would be Blo-Po-ing every day this month? Yeah well. Sorry, fell off the wagon there for a few days. But I think it would be rude for me to leave you with screaming Christian Bale for much longer, so ... what to write instead?

The journaling prompt says to write about a person, so I will leave this here as a stub, and pledge to add more meat later.

Baaaaake!

I was going to write about my father*. But the TV is on, and there is the Great British Baking Show ... Masterclass, where the two judges, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, are doing the baking!!! And they are showing us what their secrets are. Let's see what Mary Berry does with a madeira cake. 

She adds candied lemon peel! I know how to do that. I will have plenty of lemons on the tree soon. 

But Black Forest gateau is on the list for today's episode as well; I will hold out for that.

 

*It's his birthday. He would have been 95 today. 

Blo-Po-ing

Yeah, not participating in NaNoWriMo, because this is the busiest time of year at work. But I can at least blog every day, can't I? Thus, I have signed up for NaBloPoMo and will be blo-po-ing daily this month.

Maybe I'll even wear my fussy shirt.

For your viewing, if not tasting pleasure (sorry, no scratch'n'sniff on the intarwebs yet!): a little apple pie and even littler bacon cookies on the cooling rack.

I just did the math on all the resources processed today. Sarah and I made three small and two large apple pies and 1 1/2 sheets of bacon cookies. We used:

• about 10 pounds of apples
• 1/2 pound of bacon
• 3 cups of white and brown sugar
• 9 cups of flour
• 7 sticks of butter
• 1 bag of raisins
• 6 egg yolks
• 1 whole egg
• 3 cups of corn flakes
• juice of 6 lemons
• liberal amounts of cinnamon
• about a cup of Calvados

I Can See Clearly Now

Sarah and I baked bacon cookies and apple pies. A grand time was had by all, even the cookies.

Upcoming episodes include Tony Bennett, Bill Clinton, James Taylor, Lou Reed, Julian Schnabel, Rufus Wainwright, The Police, and Renee Fleming. My TiVo is all set to season-pass. I really like his music - I listen more to Elvis Costello than any other artist by a factor of three, and I enjoy his live show banter and story-telling. Will I like him as a show host? It's still too soon to know. But I'll keep you posted.
