Yesterday, I picked up my last Live Earth Farm farmshare box of the 2010/11 winter season. It contained Fuji apples, broccoli, Napa cabbage, carrots, chard, Red Russian kale, leeks, Meyer lemons, lettuce, oyster mushrooms from Far West Fungi, onions, and a jar of spicy tomato juice from Happy Girl Kitchen.
It's been a great winter with all this bounty. Amazing how many kinds of food you can grow in California in the winter! I'm eating more vegetables than ever, and I still can't entirely keep up. One thing I really liked about the box was that you get what you get. I had never bought kale or chard before, and I've encountered different varieties of lettuce and cabbage than I usually get. I love experimenting in the kitchen, so this was right up my alley.
March is between the seasons for Live Earth Farm. I'm already signed up for their summer season, and am looking forward to the first delivery in April.
