Philip K. Dick's Man in the High Castle presents an alternate history. I love those what-ifs! In this story, Germany and Japan have won World War II. The USA is broken up into three pieces - the East Coast is under German rule, the West Coast under Japanese rule, and the mountains and midwest are semi-independent. The majority of the story is set in San Francisco, which appealed to me very much. I think this is the first time I've read anything by Dick, and I really enjoyed his language. I liked the whole story - until I got to the end, which puzzled me. I still don't get it. Does that mean I didn't like it? No, not really, I did. Can I recommend it? I'm not sure. I guess you'll have to decide for yourselves.
