I am not surprised that there's so many techies who support Obama. Craig Newmark sums it up nicely: "If you care about the internet - well, Barack's the guy for you." I agree wholeheartedly. To me, McCain and Obama are excellent personifications of Web 1.0 vs. Web 2.0. It's hierarchy vs. community, "I'll tell you what to do" vs. "we're all doing this together", controlled corporate messaging vs. open discussion among friends and friends of friends, "I'll sell you something" vs. "let's share this".
How does that William Gibson quote go? "The future is already here. It's just not evenly distributed."
I live in Web 2.0 land, and I don't ever want to go back to The Dark Ages of 1.0.
McCain has a record of crossing party lines to cooperate. Obama has a record of having no record to reach out. Your personifications don't make sense, at least not to those who know the candidates' track records as senators.

> McCain has a record of crossing party lines to cooperate.
What does that mean, exactly?
