Last week's Austin Chronicle has a series of articles about the city going green, reducing emissions, and aiming for carbon neutrality. Austin's city council has unanimously adopted a resolution including the Austin Climate Protection Plan, which aims to "'make Austin the leading city in the nation' in the fight against global warming".
One article to note for myself is the one titled "Enviro-Rentalism" that has tips on what you can do if you don't own your own house, and all those great ideas about solar panels, water heater improvements, and double-glazing windows are not options for you.
And it's not just Austin, of course. The Mercury News reports on the remodeling of a San Jose building:
Z-squared -- the latest in green building -- is happening on Old Almaden Road in San Jose where a 1960s-era bank building is becoming one of the first commercial structures in the country to supply all its own energy while emitting no greenhouse gases. Coined by scientists, z-squared means zero carbon-dioxide emissions and zero energy use from the grid.
