The New York Times election maps (Senate, House, Governors) have an interesting way of looking at the elections: they show holds or gains for the parties, holds in light pastels, gains in strong colors. At the time of this writing (midnight in California), I see quite a few dark blue gains for the Democrats, but not a single bright red gain for the Republicans. I think that shows better than anything else how much trust they have lost with Americans all over the country.
