I managed to fit in two more movies this weekend. I'd left the house to go see Syriana Saturday afternoon, but I was running a bit late, and the ticket line was very long, so I opted for "Walk The Line" instead, and enjoyed it a lot.
Today I was in the mood for fare lighter than Syriana, and saw the Chronicles of Narnia. I'd heard a couple of friends say it wasn't all that great, but I had my reasons to want to see it anyway. And I actually liked it a lot. The children were cast well - Lucy was cute and sweet, Susan was smart and beautiful in those English rose colors, Edmund was appropriately brooding, and Peter - ach! Peter was so heartstoppingly beautiful that I longed for more closeups.
But my money was on the villainess. This movie has been on my must-see list ever since I heard that Tilda Swinton was going to play the White Witch.
And, oh.
My.
GOD.
She was fierce and coldly beautiful and cruel, and it was quite a spectacle to behold her in her battle gear. That alone was worth the price of admission. Would even have been well worth the full price of admission, but I smartly have a discount card so each show costs me only five dollars.
I may have to go back just to take in her splendid costumes again.
