What a great meetup! This was the best. Evah.
I arrived late after a lovely group dinner with friends/coworkers and the best hug of the day, and joined Antwon, Hank, and Jon.
Silvia, Rich, and Ealasaid showed up within a half hour of me, and that was the whole crowd for the evening. Will someone remind me how we got on the topic of naked Bea Arthur? I remember that Silvia said something about pensions, I claimed I would just pull a Maude, and somewhere in the resulting train wreck of a thought process towards another Maude there were kitten pictures on Antwon's site ... I swear it made sense at the time.
We did talk about other stuff. Honest! But we kept circling back to Bea, and then we decided we should all blog it, and name our entries "Naked Bea Arthur". Wait, I said, I can't do that, I always use song lyrics for my entry titles. One of the fine gentlemen at the table rightly pointed out that we could make a song with those lyrics, so that I could use them.
No sooner said than done:
Rich opened his iBook and fired up Garageband, and Antwon gave a heartwrenching performance of "Naked Bea Arthur" (nakedBea.mp3, 475.2K download). And Rich just emailed it to all of us, and now we're fantasizing about this becoming the next great hit on the iTunes Music Store, and on everybody's cell phones.
Hank, what was that site to turn an mp3 file into a ringtone?
Naked Bea Arthur, I love you so ...
That would be http://mobile17.smashsworld.com/. Which I'll be using just as soon as I write my own blog entry on this topic. And to think, it was my idea that we all title our postings what that immortal phrase...

This could only have happened without me, cuz I would have insisted upon talking about "Naked Natalie Portman", and while that would bea... I mean be a lot more pleasing to look at, it probably wouldn't have inspired a song.

We may just have to record a new song at each meetup from now on, just so I have fresh lyrics to post. :-)

Truly strange! I don't know why you kids can't just listen to good music like Zevon's "Excitable Boy" and Zappa's "Idiot Bastard Son," "Jewish Princess," and (so appropriate for today) "Concentration Moon!"
Concentration moon
Over the camp in the valley
Concentration moon
Wish I was back in the alley
With all of my friends,
Still running free:
Hair growing out
Every hole in me
American way
How did it start?
Thousands of creeps
Killed in the park
American way
Try and explain
Scab of a nation
Driven insane
Don't cry
Gotta go bye bye
Suddenly: die die
Cop kill a creep!
Pow pow pow
Concentration moon
Over the camp in the valley
Concentration moon
Wish I was back in the alley
With all of my friends,
Still running free:
Hair growing out
Every hole in me
American way
Threatened by us
Drag a few creeps
Away in a bus
American way
Prisoner: lock
Smash every creep
In the face with a rock
Don't cry
Gotta go bye bye
Suddenly: die die
Cop kill a creep!
Pow pow pow

Fun fact: as of this writing, this webpage is the #1 Google result for "naked bea arthur", with or without quotes. Congratulations! (My page is #2.)
