Looking through my ever-changing music collection, I checked on who's who in my iTunes music library, counting the number of songs I have from each artist. Not surprised by the first two. :-) Here's the top dozen and a half:
(72) Elvis Costello
(65) Robert Palmer
(53) Marianne Faithfull
(51) Over The Rhine
(50) Robbie Williams
(49) Tears for Fears*
(47) John Hiatt
(44) PJ Harvey*
(43) Andrea Bocelli
(42) Toad The Wet Sprocket
(38) Depeche Mode
(38) Massive Attack
(37) Yo-Yo Ma
(36) R.E.M.
(35) Pete Townshend
(35) Rammstein
(34) Warren Zevon
(32) Patty Griffin
* For Tears for Fears and PJ Harvey, it's not all songs, strictly speaking. I bought their iTunes Original albums, and it's always a short intro by the artist about the song. I like this feature. Spoken liner notes.
Oh yeah ... just to be nerdily thorough (or thoroughly nerdy) - my iTunes library today: 4242 songs, 12.3 days, 19.24 GB. 813 artists, 613 albums.
You've bought 4,242 songs through iTunes? Now that's dedication!
I think I would only buy the exclusive EPs, stuff like that.

No, I haven't bought that many. I rip most of my CDs into my iTunes library because that's where I listen to music most of the day - either on my PowerBook, or on the iPod.
I *have* bought 492 tunes, according to my library. Some of it is exclusive, like the aforementioned iTunes Originals, a couple are audiobooks, some are single tracks, and some are albums I'd rather buy for 10 bucks online than for 15 bucks at the store. I do still buy CDs - especially for artists I don't know, or for artists I love very much, I really am a sucker for liner notes, and all that additional info. Like, I really NEED to know who played marimba on that 4th track. :-)

And a friend of mine just expressed it perfectly:
"I love iTMS. Hear a cheesy old song that you remember from days
gone by? 99 cents and five minutes later you have it. That's
so cool."

What? Where's all the Clash? and Yo La Tengo?
The Elvis makes me hap hap happy.

Just a select few Clashes. And No La Tengo at all. I'm sorry. There's just too darn much great music out there; I can't keep up!
