Actually, she had an entire perfect weekend - enough fodder for a dozen entries.
Rode to Santa Cruz with Mary on Saturday, stopped at Gayle's for a tasty snack and took those to the beach where I frolicked along the surf with Abbey, who enjoyed herself as much as we did, even though she had to be on a leash.
Sunday we took ourselves to San Francisco. Started at the Palace of the Legion of Honor to see the Art Deco exhibit, which was beautiful and wondrous - they had a whole lot stuff that I would not have known as art deco.
Seeing so much art makes you hungry, of course ... and I had a brilliant idea: hey, the Suppenküche is open for Sunday brunch! And I'd only ever been there for dinner. Nobody else objected, and we had a lovely German brunch, including diverse beers, even Berliner Weisse with woodruff syrup. Man oh man, it tasted like home ... I was in heaven.
After brunch we wandered down Hayes Street and fell into America's first sake store which had a great selection and a beautiful display. (I bought a bottle of "Pure Flavor", but I haven't opened it yet.) Then, for good measure, we stopped at Frjtz. "belgian fries, crepes and dj art teahouse" - hell yeah, we gotta check that out. They're also on Hayes, in the space where the tea room and tarot reading place was.
But the plan was to go to Carnaval, a festival somewhere off Mission ... bear with me, I'll tell you about that in the next entry.
You just named two of my favorite places to eat in the city (Frjtz and Suppenkuche). I'm getting hungry just thinking about them!

The Suppenkueche even has "Allgaeuer Bueble" beer. I cracked when I saw that. It's made in my tiny little home town in the Bavarian Alps.

So what's this Berliner Weiss with Woodruff syrup?

Kate: Good stuff is what it is! We'll have to go get one. Or two - a green one (with woodruff) and a red one (with raspberry).
Yummm.
Silvia: I was wondering what Allgäuer Büble was; I'd thought it was a drink, like a Radler or a Russe. Funny that it's from your hometown. The closest beer to my home is Distel, out of Distelhausen near Tauberbischofsheim (where I was born).
Buzz: I trek to Suppenküche every chance I get. I've noticed none of my friends puts up much resistance either. For me, it's home away from home. It's just like my neighhorhood hangout in Munich.
