Yes, I know it's not purses and briefcases James Brown is talking about. But *I've* been thinking about purses and briefcases, and that lyric snippet is stuck in my brain and refuses to be dislodged.
See, it's almost payday. And I have this habit of buying myself something special, something nice, from the first paycheck I get at a new job. (No, Debbie, I don't want the Coach bag anymore. See, it's good to sleep on something that you really really want ... sometimes the craving will just go away again.)
Anyway, I've been thinking I could get myself a nice carry case for my PowerBook. I carry it (and the rest of my household) around in my trusty Amazon messenger bag, but I'd like something a little more stylish and professional-looking. And I got a 15" PowerBook at work, just like the one I have at home, so whatever I get, could do double duty.
The one I liked best from Willow Design, the Kootenay, is sold out, unfortunately. (They're having a final sale, by the way - they're not going to make these laptop cases anymore. If you want one, get it by Feb 29.)
Acme Bags has a series of very stylish designer bags. How about gray flannel? Or the Eames dots? The geometric pattern? Pink circles? Chocolate? I want one of each ...
I'll ponder this for a few more days. And yes, I will certainly let you know what I purchase. I'll show it off to everybody until you all get sick of it.
There's a whole thread on laptop bags on Slashdot, in case you hadn't seen it. Recommendations included Willow Design as well as Targus, Brenthaven, Crumpler, Pelican, and Timbuk2.
The one I have for my 12" iBook is from Waterfield Designs, which I think is pretty stylish. The draw for me was that you can get the sleeve with a shoulder strap and a clip-on piggyback bag for accessories. Most sleeves aren't really usable without a bag. The protection probably isn't as good as some other sleeves out there, though.
My cousin Rich, who recommended the iBook to me in the first place, has a lot of other suggestions for sleeves (some of which also feature bags), including ACME Made and Timbuk2, as well as MacCase, Shinza, MARWARE, and Spire.
The one he owns is the Brain Cell.
Hope that helps! Some of them are more functional than stylish, though.

Oh, excellent! Thanks so much, fling93!
Now I'll actually have to decide ... g'ah!
